THE POWER OF YOUNG INDIA
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
                                              ~ Mahatma Gandhi

64 year old democracy is what we own, change in on-going practices is what we desire, becoming a super power is what we aspire. But all these things can’t be achieved in a single day. A shock treatment is needed to pave the way for a change to happen. That's what happened in our nation India in the year 2011. The year saw a plethora of events ranging from World Cup Victory to Ramdev and Anna Hazare’s individual protests against corruption with blundering UPA Govt. cracking under pressure from people’s power and more importantly India being united on the topic of corruption. All these endeavours affirm that young India has started refusing to mortgage his conscience and possess never-say-die attitude.

At the time of struggle for independence, Gandhi called upon the youth to participate actively in the freedom movement. Young leaders likes Nehru came to his reckoning and led the movement. In 1974 during JP movement, some areas of Bihar were severely infected by chicken pox. Jaiprakash Narayan expressed his worries over this matter and within some time students of Patna Medical College accredited his call and completed the work of vaccinating the thousand’s infected. In the similar manner active and energetic participation of youth in Anna Hazare’s fight against corruption movement has again strengthened the norm that this young generation, a representative of Young India is not in a slumber. They possess enormous strength to turn the tide when united and rule the world. Further this mass participation also raised a question to re-cogitate the sayings that this generation has lost its track, they don’t value the Indian culture and rituals, they are slowly and steadily becoming the slaves of westernisation, they consider McDonald’s aloo tikki more tastier as compared with aloo ke paranthe, who dance on the tune of Sheela and Munni, late night pubs discothèques and rave have become their daily routine. If this generation is such strayed, then why instantaneously all of them came together, sculpted a 74years old man with a Gandhian cap as their role model and jumped into the fight against corruption?

Delhi’s ramlila ground witnessed one of the epic moments in the history of India. Fight against corruption movement led by Anna Hazare - a cool dude in Gandhi cap as titled by majority of young blood, spun numerous odds against their team into their favour and made the Govt. accept their demand of Jan Lokpal Bill. The backbone of movement being the passionate support shown by the youth. Be it an engineering student of Mumbai or manager of multinationals like Infosys belonging to Bengaluru or a Rickshaw puller of Delhi, all of them joined hands on a single call of Anna, took oaths, sang slogans and successfully completed a protest which was based on Gandhian philosophy of non-violence. The huge support shown by the youth made the protest being termed as second struggle for independence. All had a single motive i.e. to uproot the corruption from its ground level and make India a corruption free nation. And this demographic reality of India’s youth bulge could not escape the attention of the India’s political scenario either. A government steeped in the flotsam of corruption saw the rising tsunami and quickly acceded to Hazare's demands and marked a victory of the youth. This clearly indicates that the power that these young guns possess is ample enough to make their voices heard and to bring out the desirable changes.

All the established outlooks need a change as this isn’t any old India. As a PepsiCo TV commercial once suggested, this is “Youngistaan”, the Land of the Young and youth is its power. This is the generation who dream big and have drive to achieve it. They are the generation in the right place at the right time. Instant is today’s expectation with speed dominating their minds. They want everything achieved and that too faster, better & brighter. This is a generation of born multi taskers on the information and ambition super high way. This generation is an invaluable asset possessed by our country which truly embodies the Power of Young India.

“It’s now or it’s never, let our marks remain forever.
The time today needs a change, let’s combat and fix all the frames.
We’ll be heard, we’ll be respected and we’ll be strongly trusted.
Then only India will rise and will rule the world in style.”
